What is PEX Piping?
Though in some cases we may still recommend using copper for a repipe, most home repipe jobs are done with polyethylene cross-linked tubing, better known as PEX piping. PEX piping resembles a garden hose. It is flexible but is incredibly durable – even more durable than copper piping. It won’t corrode like copper will, which means you won’t have to worry about pinhole leaks from hard water damage to your pipes. Another benefit of PEX piping is that it is quieter than copper pipes, so you won’t hear water rushing through your piping system.
The main benefit of using PEX for a home repipe is that it is much cheaper. The PEX material itself is about 1/3 the price of copper piping. Since PEX piping is much easier and faster to install, the costs of repipe services with PEX piping are also significantly reduced. This makes total repipe services much more affordable for homeowners.
All of the plumbers at Coastal Plumbing Pros of Mission Viejo are trained and certified to work with PEX piping. They are also trained in various installation methods so the PEX repipe can be done with as little damage to your home as possible.
Will My Walls and Ceilings Need to Be Cut Open?
When you call us for a repipe estimate, a plumber will walk with you through your home and explain exactly what to expect in terms of damages to your home from the repipe. In some cases, such as repipe plumbing in slabs, it is necessary to cut access holes in parts of your home. However, in most cases, we can find ways of accessing the old pipes without tearing open walls or ceilings – such as making small openings in unobtrusive places. Our plumbers always do whatever is possible to avoid cutting into areas which are hard to repair, such as tiles or outside walls.
